Department of Molecular Medicine Annual Retreat
Each year the department holds an annual retreat, designed to introduce and update faculty, fellows, students and staff with the research focus and progress of each laboratory within the department. Departmental faculty normally provide an overview and an update on the research within their laboratories. In addition, students who will be entering the third year and above of the graduate program are required to participate by presenting a 12-minute talk, with a 3-minute question/answer session. They are eligible to compete for the two Grand Prize Research Awards ($1,000 each) and four $150 awards in two award categories.
In years past, the annual retreat has been held in Corpus Christi, Texas, providing an opportunity for department members to interact in a more casual venue. However, more recently, the event has been held in the Texas Research Park. In either case, attendance throughout the event is mandatory for all Graduate Program in Molecular Medicine students. The event is scheduled to coincide with arrival of incoming graduate students, in order to provide them an opportunity to learn about the research being conducted in the institute.
Postdoctoral Fellows are strongly encouraged, but not required to participate. They may compete for the Grand Prize and for the $150 Research Award with 5+ - year graduate students. Faculty prepare a short (20-25 min.) talk presenting research conducted in their laboratories.
